"It is not possible to go forward while looking back."

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

It's been a while since my last blogpost... Life... But I do love to look back on my year and share what all I've been up to and the special people I've met and worked with along the way. It wasn't an easy year. There were a lot of learning curves thrown in the mix and many changes to adjust to but I'm extremely happy and grateful as I look back on 2017. So here we go:

With the year a new, I was officially out of my photography hiatus and I was hungry to explore new locations and experiment with some editorial work. My good friend Park Hyun Chul helped me out with some beautiful new hanbok work and we spent a wonderful few hours in the snow.

However, winter set in and I went into full hibernation mode...

With some warm rays warming up my bones I jumped back into work starting with baby Noah. I stopped by his home to do a lifestyle in-home session. He's also pretty famous: that same week they were on a famous TV show here in Gwangju and I arrived to some cameras following the Lim-clang around.  We played, we posed, ate some awesome sweet potatoes and made some pretty photos!

Next was Seongjin and Jocelyn's pre-wedding photos taken in Damyang and Gwangju Eco-park. I was looking to update my portfolio and I did a model call. Jocelyn responded almost immediately and we set about the planning process for a spring themed pre-wedding shoot. I had so much fun putting together her outfit and making her bouquet. This session I actually did blog: click here

Wedding season officially kicked off with Pete and Sanha. They had a lovely traditional Korean wedding in one of my favorite locations here in Gwangju. I loved all the unique touches they put to their wedding and had so much fun photographing their special day. To see the full gallery: click here

I ended off April with the Jeung family in Jeju. This wonderful travel-loving family came all the way from Canada and wanted to have their trip documented while they were in Jeju-island. It was still chilly but the family were troopers and still managed to have a great time exploring the island together!

The annual production of The Vagina Monologues rolled around again and their producers asked me to help them with their promotional material. I've been working with this organization for about 4 years now and usually we have a theme of red and black but we decided to go pink this year for the cast portraits and I was so happy with how they turned out!

A lot of June was spent behind the computer editing all the work from spring because I was getting ready to visit my family in July but the Reynekes announced that they were pregnant and so a quick trip to Busan was worked in too. We woke up at the crack of dawn to get some pretty golden sunrise rays and fresh blue skies and after I was spoiled with an awesome breakfast :)

I spent most of July back in South Africa visiting family and friends and enjoying some wide open spaces.

I was so thrilled when the Jang family contacted me again with the addition of their son. This was our third time hanging out and taking photos and I was so touched to be a part of their story again.

My talented friend Park Hyun Chul hosted his first hanbok showing later in the month. He made a unique performance-style showing in a small house in downtown Gwangju. I can't wait to see more big things from this soul :)

Autumn started out James and Seung Meung's reception. The couple got married in Canada but came out to Korea to host Seung Meung's family and friends in a small reception in the Holiday Inn in Gwangju.

Stephen and Lindsay were next on the schedule. These two beautiful souls were actually cast members from the Vagina Monologues and they wanted to have some photos taken of them in Korea to remember their time here. We had a lovely afternoon in my local park drinking coffee and laughing at Stephen :)

While the rest of Korea was celebrating Chuseok, Nigel and Serena escaped the Hong Kong heat to holiday in Korea. They decided to have their pre-wedding photos done while they were in the country and came to meet me all the way down in Gwangju. We were dealt a heavy hand of rain throughout the day but they managed to still keep smiling and enjoy every minute of their time off.

Another family whom I had worked with before were awaiting their second born. JJ and Erica and their beautiful little Briony came to meet me in the park for a beautiful autumn afternoon.

Next stop was Songdo in Incheon where I met up with Cookie and Chelsea to celebrate their engagement. We spent the afternoon exploring Songdo central park and then warmed up with some coffee after sundown. Have fun wedding planning guys!

In late October it was time for Jacob and April's wedding in Gyeonggi Province on a beautiful island resort. I'm so in love with every aspect of their wedding. It was elegant and pretty from beginning to end. They also had their ceremony in a stunning little chapel and hosted a wonderful reception after for all of their guests.

I ended wedding season off with the Ahn wedding in a small town in Jeollabuk-do. The wedding was a very small, traditional affair with some singing, dancing and lots of eating to celebrate this union.

In December it was back to Busan to photograph the new Reyneke family. Little Hendri has stolen his parents hearts with that little cute smile and it was truly amazing seeing these two people going from a young couple traveling the world to two awesome parents!

To end things off, after a couple of weeks of waiting Griffin finally made his appearance into the world. I stopped by his home a couple of weeks ago to document his first few days with his family and his fur friend.

So that's what I have been up to this past year! Thank you for sharing my journey with me and to all my wonderful, wonderful clients I can't express enough how grateful I am to you. For trusting me to make good images for you, for your patience waiting for your images and for all your kindness! Thank you and a very happy 2018 to you all!
