“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.”
― Jim Bishop
When asked what my favorite season is in Korea it is hands down autumn! Something about this season resets my brain. I feel renewed, my energy levels spike back up to full power and I find inspiration in everything. It's kind of how people generally feel about the first day of the new year.
Fall offers such a wide variety of beauty: fog, color, fantastic light and stunning sunsets (probably sunrises too but I'd never be awake early enough for that haha). Everyday I have a wave of happiness and peace take over as soon as I open the windows or go for my daily walk. I'm greeted by something beautiful everyday and that alone inspires me to literally stop and take it all in.
It sounds like I have an unlimited amount of time everyday to go and frolic outside in the leaves - I don't. I am however lucky to have the responsibility of taking my dog for a walk everyday which means come fog or sunshine, for one hour a day, I get to admire what Mother Nature has decided to put out there. Between managing my energetic dachshund and lagging my heavy gear with me, is not easy and so I decided to document autumn this year with my iPhone. Leaving the gear at home freed me up to concentrate more on the composition of the pictures and focus on what I wanted to show or say.
I actually learned a whole lot from this little project. I learned more about who I am as a photographer and what my preferences are. You could say I defined my "photographic style" a bit more (although I never want to put myself in a box like that). I also (maybe more importantly) learned to really appreciate quiet time and that this time is absolutely necessary. It allows me to let go of nagging, negative thoughts that get in the way of everyday life and happiness and ultimately in the way of being more creative.
Every autumn is a great season for me, but this year it was especially great. I look at these photos and feel a sense of peace and happiness and I hope they can do the same for you. Happy Tuesday!
